Why Why Why?

August 27, 2006

Are there no good horror movies anymore? And I’m not talking about Bram’s Stoker’s Dracula. Francis Ford Coppola’s gothic masterpiece was a visual feast and even 14 years later is still a much loved favourite of mine.

BUT!

Why aren’t there more movies like that? And no I’m not even going to touch Van Helsing with a 10 foot pole. I hate that piece of regurgitated computer animation crap with a passion I can’t even describe accurately. Van Helsing smacks of a Coppola rip-off. Granted artistic liberties are always going to be thrown in willy-nilly and suspension of disbelief  has to be a complusory mindset for any horror movie fan…but crap is crap. And no amount of werewolves bouncing off the walls can improve it.

Speaking of werewolves. Another group of naughty buggers that have been overlooked. Yes I know there’s Underworld and Underworld : Evolution and I thoroughly enjoyed both of them – but they’re lacking in the bite department if you know what I mean. Both are extremely entertaining and are well made but when a movie is based on a comic book, you just know it’s going to be heavy on the action and low on horror.

What I wouldn’t give for another An American Werewolf In London, which is still superb in my humble opinion (I spent RM280 on the original director’s cut DVD with all the extras). Even The Howling wasn’t too shabby at all.

*Sigh*

Okay, whining done.

Early Morning Blurness

August 16, 2006

This morning after my shower, I came thiiiiiiiiiis close to gargling with my Optrex Eye Lotion instead of my usual Oral-B mouthwash.

I blame it on a lack of sleep and the fact that I was too busy checking to see if the ab workout I’d been doing for the past 2 weeks had been paying off.

Bet that would have given me an interesting kickstart to the day :D

Bits From Alum Email

August 5, 2006

About 3 times a week I get an email from the Mountbatten UWC Alumni Electronic List. This is basically a forum for all UWC alumni from all over the world to communicate, ask questions about travel, post issues, discuss politics, secure times for SSS (Second Sunday @ Six is a monthly meeting open to all UWCers and is held at pretty much every major city around the world), connect with old friends – you guys get the idea. This is the school I went to and sat for my GCSE’s.

Imagine my surprise when I came across this today:

Dear Friends,

My family own a precious Stradivarius violin for more than 4 generations
now. But now we would like to put it for sale. It has an inscription that
reads “Antonius Stradivarius Cremonensis. Faciebat Annus 1720″
I would like to know if there is anyone who can help us out in finding the
right place and person to contact to put it for auction or if there is
anyone who is interested in buying it.

For more information and photos please contact me at this address or at
carol.caceres.salvioni@gmail.com

Thank you in advance.

What about that! Imagine having something just so, so beautifully precious at home. Wow. I hope they get a good price if it goes up for auction.

And this was too good to pass up. Hope you guys check it soon:

I received this e-mail at work and started laughing hysterically.
Check it out! Google reveals it’s political opinion.

Subject: was this a mistake on googles part?

1- Go to www.Google.com

2- Type in Failure

3- Look at it and laugh at what comes up first

4- Tell other people before the people at Google Fix it

Heh! I can’t say I totally disagree either.
